Here’s my credit card update from mint.com. I’m making slow and steady progress and am very proud of myself. A year ago this time I would have been still charging away.
Here’s something I’ve never posted before, it’s my spending on these three cards from 2/2008 through 9/2008. There have been a few charges here and there. Tower Mart charges are for gasoline. KFC and the Indian Bingo charges are for food that my husband made. Silver Legacy charge is for a hotel room at Reno, NV.
The majority of spending, in the orange is Finance Charges! YUCK!!!
My Mom Said….
My mother dropped by unannounced yesterday morning, she has a habit of doing this and she had some gossip about my husbands current employer (remember his final day is this Friday). My mom works for the County we live in and she told me that rumors are flying about his employer, their shady accounting practices and the fact that they are going broke. It sounds like my husband is the first rat jumping off the burning ship. It’s a saying…. my husband isn’t a rat.
Cutting back $800 a month
After a lot of brainstorming I think we will be able to cut back $800 a month after all to make up for my husbands cut in pay with his new job. When he’s at work two straight weeks at a time, he’ll be eating on his company’s tab as long as he’s away from home. When he’s away from home the kids and I eat really cheap so I think as long as he’s gone I can save at least $400 a month in groceries.
My husband has a love of Jack Daniels and its a very expensive habit. He’s promised me he’d quit drinking once he was done with his current job and as long as he follows through, I’m sure we’ll save a minimum of $300 a month. So there’s at least $700 a month, now I just need to get creative and cut back another $100 and we’ll be good to go.
Another perk of my man’s new job
He gets to pick out a brand new company truck. Yep, he gets to pick out where it’s going to be purchased as well as what make, model, and options he wants. He is also going to be furnished with company credit cards for fuel.

Cutting back $800 a month is a great goal. It may not seem like a huge chunk, but if you take that amount and save it every month it adds up to a lot of money every year. Great goals, good luck accomplishing them!

Are those finance charges monthly or yearly? It has to be yearly… you can’t possibly have over 1000 a month in finance charges? that would be like 12k a year… just curious.

HS - Thats the finance charges I’ve paid from Feb 1st to Sept 1st 2008. When I first started my debt reduction some of my interest rates were crazy high. I think my GM card was OVER 30%, due to me paying late, feeling hopeless and really not caring about my credit card debt. Back then I didn’t think there was any way I’d ever get out of debt so why bother paying on time. Stupid, I know.
