I REALLY don’t feel right,,,last Christmas I returned over 500 dollars worth of gifts….And this year,,I TOLD THE family to spend nothing but create their gift,,I’M SOOOOOO sick of spending,,, it happened last year,and follow through to this year…Materialism,,,has made me SOOOOO sick,,turning me into a scroooge…..gluttony of our society,,,,not only in foood,but material items….fat people,tooo many items,,CLUTTER BUGS …..sick society sick over stuffed…..

I'm with you. I started really getting out of debt last year and that's when I told my friends and family NOT to buy me a present. I was honest and said that I couldn't afford to do Christmas and so they should save their money and go buy themselves something special after Christmas when the sales are crazy. A few people refused that idea and so I asked for a Target gift card and adopted a refugee family and bought presents for them. Conventional wisdom would tell me to save that gift card for myself, but seeing how truly poor they were made me think about all the stuff I have already. Sort of clarifies the difference between need and want - ya know? Anyways, great blog. We can keep each other going. I just started a blog myself. Money ladys last blog post..Step one: get organized

We're doing a gift exchange that has greatly reduced the amount of useless crap to buy for everyone. Instead we just buy crap for one other person. I also dread Christmas because of credit card debt going up each year. This year though it's planned and I think my wife will work with me on it this year. Don't do it - be strong - adding to the ccs is no good! I am with you though - it is hard to do Christmas - we actually backed out of a lot of our gift giving norms with family... it is crazy for me to go buy something for my sil when they make 4 xs the amount that dh makes & she can buy it for herself! lol Good Luck & Stay Strong! jpkitties last blog post..I got my game!!!
