Since getting on the debt free bandwagon, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. At times I’ve felt like getting out of credit card debt was going to be an impossible uphill battle and considered giving up. Paying off credit card debt felt too overwhelming, I was hopeless and thought things would never get better. I had serious doubts I could ever become debt free.
Feeling hopeless, I went online looking for a miracle or easy way to get out of debt and found none. I read about some dude named Dave Ramsey and I found a bunch of people just like me who were also up to their necks in debt, blogging about all they were doing to get out of debt. I even found some stories of people that had more debt than me, at the time I couldn’t believe it, I thought I had the most credit card debt but I was wrong! What was most inspiring were the stories of people that had debt like me but were now debt free. Those stories have changed my life!
Here’s some cool things that have happened to me since I stopped using credit cards, started living within my means and started paying off my credit card debt.
- I’ve paid off almost 20% of my credit card debt!
- I’ve paid off two vehicles a whole year early!
- I’ve paid off back taxes owed to the state of California 2 years early!
- I’m no longer afraid to answer my telephone! This is a biggie for me. Before starting my quest to become debt free, I was a real mess with bills, I didn’t care when or if they got paid (even when I had the money to pay them sitting in my checking account) and as a consequence I was getting all kinds of calls from bill collectors.
- I’m done paying late fees! No more monthly dings from Citibank, Chase or the GM card!
- I have all $34,000+ of my credit card debt locked in a low interest rates. I’m paying around $120 a month or less in interest on the entire balance! It pays to check the credit card inserts and move high interest credit card balances to a low interest balance transfer offer.
- I’m done being a sucker! I will NEVER have another car payment again. I don’t care if my car isn’t the latest model as long as it runs I’m happy!
- I’m happier! I feel like I’m taking back control of my life.
If you are wanting to get debt free but don’t have any idea of where to start or if you think you can’t ever become pay off credit cards and live debt free because you don’t have any extra money to apply to debt YOU ARE WRONG! If I can do it then anyone can do it. I highly recommend reading Dave Ramsey’s – Total Money Makeover. He’ll show you the path to becoming debt free. The debt free path isn’t painless but its so worth it!
