I’m still headed in the right direction and paying off credit card debt.  I’ve managed to knock some more off my balance.  I’m getting really close to getting back into the $20,000’s and finally kissing the $30,000’s good bye forever!  At this rate I figure I’ll be in the $20’s at the end of November!

Here’s where my credit card balance stands:

August 2009 Credit Card Balance

I’m excited! Look how far I’ve came in the last year and a half! I started this debt blog with over $40,000 worth of credit card debt and now about a year and a half later I’ve paid off $10,605.60 of credit card debt!  While this is a great accomplishment what I’m probably most proud of is teaching my kids about the evils of credit cards.

My oldest daughter graduated high school two years ago and some of my friends have already accumulated credit card debt, car payments and student loans since graduating from high school.  While my daughter, knowing how credit card debt can ruin your life is steering clear of credit cards and still remains completely debt free!  She may be driving a car from the mid 90’s but it’s paid for!  :-D  She tells me her friends parents encourage her friends to take out loans and get credit cards so they can “build their credit”.  What?  I can’t imagine encouraging any of my children to go into debt.  Sure at some point she will need to establish good credit so she can purchase a house, I realize that but at 18 she has no business having a credit card.  I just hope my daughter can keep this up and remain debt free.  I can’t imagine where I’d be right now if I’d stuck with “cash is king” policy and had never gotten into credit card debt or taken out vehicle loans.

I started this blog to keep myself accountable and to help myself get out of credit card debt.  While I’m positive I will be getting out of credit card debt, wouldn’t it be wonderful if I also ended up teaching my kids to live a debt free life?  Can you imagine how free they would be to live their lives without the burden of being in debt?  The thought of my kids living a debt free life gives me chills and makes me feel so happy.
